Men from Dormont, Brookline charged after shots fired at West Liberty bar

Police arrested a man early today after they said he fired shots into a crowded bar in Dormont after he and a friend had been thrown out.
Anthony Nania, 22, of Dormont, is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, four counts of aggravated assault and five misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment. His friend, Charles Friedel, 21, of Brookline, is also charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.
Dormont police Sgt. Ralf Zawischa said the two were drinking at the R Bar on West Liberty Avenue when staff threw them out about 11:45 p.m.
The pair returned to the bar about 20 or 25 minutes later with a gun, Sgt. Zawischa said.
Mr. Nania fired three shots through the front door of the bar, where about 20 patrons remained, Sgt. Zawischa said. Then the friends returned to Mr. Nania's house.
No one was hit, but a man and a woman were struck with broken glass. Both were treated at the scene and a friend drove the woman to a hospital.
Witnesses identified Mr. Nania by name to officers, who Sgt. Zawischa said knew where he lived because of previous run-ins with police.
They arrested the pair at Mr. Nania's home, near the bar.
Both men were arraigned before District Judge Blaise Larotonda at 11:15 a.m., where their bond was set at $250,000. They remained in jail this afternoon, according to court documents.
