Kendall Allen of Fox Chapel found herself in a familiar spot recently: accepting a certificate of achievement from Allegheny County Council.
Council members honored Kendall, a senior at Shady Side Academy, for winning her fourth consecutive PIAA Western Regional individual golf championship.
"We could just read the transcript from the year before, and the year before and the year before," Councilman Jim Burn, D-Millvale, said jokingly.
Kendall plans to attend and play golf for Michigan State University.
Council also took note of her team's accomplishment. The Shady Side girls' golf team won the WPIAL and PIAA championships.
Council presented certificates of achievement to several athletic teams from around the county. They included the following squads:
• North Hills High School girls cross-county team, WPIAL Class AAA championship.
• Seton-LaSalle High School boys soccer team, WPIAL Class A championship.
• Shady Side Academy girls field hockey team, WPIAL Class AA championship.
• Allderdice High School boys soccer team, Pittsburgh City League championship.
• Allderdice High School co-ed cross-county team, Pittsburgh City League championship.
• Allderdice High School golf team, Pittsburgh City League championship.
• Allderdice High School girls tennis team, Pittsburgh City League championship.
• Barack Obama Academy of International Studies girls soccer team, Pittsburgh City League championship.
• Barack Obama Academy of International Studies girls volleyball team, Pittsburgh City League championship.
Veteran WTAE news anchor Sally Wiggin and former county coroner Cyril Wecht were honored by the Amen Corner, a community organization that has roots going back more than 140 years. Council issued proclamations honoring Ms. Wiggin for receiving the David L. Lawrence Award for Public Service Leadership and Excellence and Dr. Wecht for receiving the Excellence in Leadership Award.
Deer Lakes High School Student Council members hosted senior citizens at a holiday luncheon. Council sent the students a certificate of recognition for their efforts.
Council took note of Donna M. Diehm's 30 years of service as secretary to Springdale Township with a certificate of recognition.
Bon Ami Temple No. 49, a Pittsburgh-based women's service and social organization, is marking its 100th anniversary this year. Council issued a proclamation offering congratulations to the organization on its centennial.
