Civil War comes alive in activities at the Andrew Carnegie Free Library

Things you need to know about the Civil War Living History Weekend on Saturday sponsored by the Andrew Carnegie Free Library, 300 Beechwood Ave., Carnegie. All programs are free except the ball. Information: 412-276-3456.

SCHEDULE

Carnegie Park, 201 Cooks Lane -- Touring stations with Civil War medicine, infantry, artillery, small arms and recruiting, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; artillery demonstrations, 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.: Fredericksburg skirmish, 1 p.m.; vintage base ball games, 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.; Gettysburg skirmish, 4:30 p.m.

Library -- Tours of the Civil War room, guns of Gettysburg display, museum of Civil War images, photographs of re-enactors, Sutler's Court, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Library reception hall -- Civil War Ball, featuring Civil War-era dances, 8 p.m. Civil War dress encouraged but not required. Tickets: $20 per individual, 30 per couple. For tickets, contact the library.

Music Hall -- Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall United States Colored Troops Drum Corps demonstrations, noon and 2:45 p.m.; "Gallant Boys of the PA 123rd" lecture by historian and film producer Michael Aubrecht, a Green Tree native, 11 a.m. and 1:45 p.m; "The Angel of Marye's Heights," a documentary film, 12:45 and 3:30 p.m.

TRANSPORTATION

Free shuttle service will link the event sites: Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall, Carnegie Park and East Main Street parking lot across from the old post office.

No parking will be available in the park. Spaces will be limited at the library. Ample parking on East Main Street, Carnegie's business district.

DIRECTIONS

From Downtown -- Interstate 376 west to the Carnegie/Heidelberg exit. Stay on the ramp straight ahead onto Mansfield Boulevard. Turn left at the second traffic light onto Broadway.

From the airport and west -- Interstate 376 east to the Carnegie/Heidelberg exit. The ramp becomes Lydia Street. Turn right at the traffic signal onto Chestnut Street, then turn left at the next traffic signal onto Main Street. Follow several blocks to Broadway.

From the Pennsylvania Turnpike -- Interstate 79 south to the Carnegie exit. At the end of the ramp, merge onto Noblestown Road, which becomes West Main Street in Carnegie. Continue on West Main and turn right onto Broadway.

From Washington County and south -- Interstate 79 north to the Carnegie exit. At the end of the ramp, merge onto Noblestown Road, which becomes West Main Street in Carnegie. Continue on West Main and turn right onto Broadway.
