A long-awaited groundbreaking ceremony for the Mt. Lebanon High School renovation project is set for 4 p.m. next Thursday.

The event, which will be held on the lawn next to the Fine Arts Theatre on Horsman Drive, will feature the Mt. Lebanon Blue Devil Marching Band and the Triple Trio voice ensemble and high school choir.

Student representatives from the district's 10 schools will be present. Students also have hand-painted 30 hard hats, inspired by famous artists, to be worn by ceremony participants and later displayed as an art installation in the new school. Speakers will include high school principal Brian McFeeley, superintendent Timothy Steinhauer, freshman class Co-President Libby Croce and school board President Josephine Posti.

The public is invited to a reception in the upper lobby of the Fine Arts Theatre immediately following the ceremony

A groundbreaking ceremony planned for last April was postponed when bids came in at $15.3 million--or 16.5 percent--above the district's estimates.

Because of the project, effective Wednesday, students will no longer be able to park on the high school campus during the day. Student parking will be available at the Mt. Lebanon United Lutheran Church on Washington Road and in the Dixon Field Parking Lot on Cedar Boulevard.
