The Baldwin-Whitehall School Board voted unanimously today to accept the resignation of head football coach Jim Wehner, effective immediately.

The board also voted unanimously to open up all football positions district-wide, which includes ninth grade, middle school, junior varsity and varsity football.

Superintendent Randal Lutz said no reason was given for the resignation.

Mr. Wehner, a physical education teacher at the high school, held the extra-curricular position for four years, during which time the football team compiled a losing record.

Mr. Lutz said anyone can apply for the open positions, including non-district residents.

He also said the off-season exercise and conditioning program, which begins soon, will not be impacted by the coaching situation.

Mr. Lutz said while there is no timetable, the aim is to fill the vacancies as soon as possible, and definitely in time for the fall football season.
