Baldwin Borough police file charges against armed man in friendly-fire shooting

Baldwin Borough police have filed charges against an armed man whose suicidal behavior on Feb. 10 led to the friendly-fire wounding of a police sergeant.
Police charged the man, Bryan R. Lijewski, 30, of Baldwin, with illegally possessing a firearm, three counts each of simple assault and reckless endangerment, and two counts of endangering the welfare of children. The charges were filed Feb. 20.
Mr. Lijewski's attorney told the office of Baldwin District Judge John Bova that he will turn himself in for arraignment there Wednesday.
Four officers responded to a 911 call from a woman inside a home in the 5100 block of Elmwood Drive who said Mr. Lijewski was walking around with a shotgun.
When officers arrived, Mr. Lijewski opened the door but refused to show his hands and began to close the door.
A Baldwin officer put his foot in the door and Sgt. Ralph Miller pushed his shoulder against the door, attempting to open it.
The first officer's gun went off, hitting Sgt. Miller between his protective vest and his belt.
