A truck overturned onto a car after trying to turn too quickly onto Perrysville Avenue in Ross early this morning, sending both drivers to the hospital.
The crash was reported at 6:12 a.m. on Perry Highway at the corner of Cemetery Lane, an Allegheny County dispatch supervisor said.
Ross police Sgt. Benjamin Dripps said the truck was turning off of Cemetery Lane onto Perrysville Avenue toward Pittsburgh at a speed too fast for those roads and flipped.
"It essentially crushed the Toyota sedan that was waiting at the red light going north," Sgt. Dripps said.
The truck continued to slide after hitting the sedan, which allowed rescue crews to reach the trapped sedan driver faster. Both drivers were taken to Allegheny General Hospital.
Their conditions have not been released. An Allegheny County dispatch supervisor said this morning that he believed the injuries were serious.
The truck delivered food for Schwan's food service, Sgt. Dripps said. Perry Highway was closed until noon while the inventory from the truck was unloaded to lighten it so it could be moved. Most of the food was donated to local food banks.
Investigators are examining the truck to determine if it complied with regulations or if it had any defects.
