Tarentum man charged with drunk driving, homicide

Ross police filed homicide by vehicle charges against a Tarentum man who they contend was drunk when he lost control of his car and hit another car, leaving his passenger fatally injured.
Brett Saltrick, 21, surrendered to police Thursday morning and was arraigned on charges of homicide by vehicle, homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, involuntary manslaughter, driving under the influence, reckless driving and exceeding the speed limit. He was being held at the Allegheny County Jail on $50,000 bail.
His passenger, 21-year-old Bryanna Riedel of Wheeling, W.Va., died Feb. 8 at Allegheny General Hospital, two days after the accident.
Police said Mr. Saltrick was headed down Thomson Run Road at around 7:30 p.m. when the car went out of control. It was struck by a car headed in the opposite direction. No one else was seriously injured.
