The other 'March Madness'

Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania is taking registration for its annual maple festival, Maple Madness, March 26 at Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve in Fox Chapel.

The day kicks off with a pancake breakfast serving real maple syrup; then, tappers will hit Beechwood's trails to learn how maple syrup has been made through the ages. After that, it's maple craft-making: a maple lip balm that people of all ages can enjoy!

Maple Madness starts at 10 a.m., and reservations may be made every half hour through 2 p.m. Visit aswp.org to make reservation online, or call 412-963-6100. The cost is $6 for society members and $10 for others. Children younger than 2 are admitted free.

For more information, call 412-963-6100 or visit aswp.org.

Town hall meeting planned

U.S. Rep. Jason Altmire, D-McCandless, will hold an open town hall meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Hampton Community Center, 3101 McCully Road. During this session, the congressman will answer constituents' questions and discuss issues he is working on in Congress.

A graduate returns

Director-choreographer Jeff Calhoun will visit his alma mater today to share his insight with students interested in working in theater.

A 1978 Richland High School graduate, Mr. Calhoun will travel from New York City for a 9 a.m. welcome breakfast in Pine-Richland's DeWitt Blank Conference Room, 700 Warrendale Road.

He plans to share details of his career path and provide audition tips and input for those pursuing the performing arts. Later, he'll see a performance of this year's musical, "Les Miserables." Friday, he'll work with students at the high school.

Mr. Calhoun directed and choreographed the hit Broadway touring "High School Musical" production. He will be directing and choreographing the musical "9 to 5" at the Civic Light Opera in May.
