Rowe upholds tradition with tea

Violet Rowe, who retired recently as librarian at Glenshaw Public Library, will gather Sunday with about 14 women of her extended family for the 17th annual Grandma Dugan's Tea Party.
The tea parties have been held every year in honor of Mrs. Rowe's sister, Lillian Dugan, who died in January, 1995, at 83. Her granddaughter, Babs Huckestein, held the first tea party later that year.
"Every year, women of the family rotate hostess duties and we all bring food," Mrs. Rowe said. "We have favors such as miniature tea cups or something related. She had a collection of tea cups and, before she died, she gave everyone a tea cup and they bring them to the party."
This year, another granddaughter, Mary Ann Abbott, is happy to host the tea party at her Ben Avon home.
"It's great to get together. I just wish we would have done it when she (Mrs. Dugan) was alive," she said.
