Skeletal remains a hunter found Dec. 1 in Mercer County are those of an 81-year-old man who disappeared from his home in East Lackawannock in July, according to the Mercer County coroner's office.

Donald Lee Mariacher had been missing from his Perry Highway home since July 13. Dental records and other information was used to identify him. Mercyhurst University's Forensic Anthropology Laboratory confirmed the coroner's office's finding.

Mercer County Coroner J. Bradley McGonigle III ruled the death accidental and cited environmental exposure as the cause. The coroner called Mr. Mariacher's Alzheimer's disease a contributing factor in his death. There was no trauma to the remains, according to the coroner's office

Pennsylvania State Police said shortly after finding the remains they believed they could be those of Mr. Mariacher.
