Pennsylvania State Police say a man whose body was found Thursdasy outside a partially burned van in Mercer County was shot to death.

Police were called about 5:30 p.m. to Hallibaugh Road in French Creek for a report of a vehicle fire when they found David A. Dignall, 58, of Carlton, partially burned next to a Ford Aerostar.

Mr. Dignall was pronounced dead at the scene by the Mercer County coroner's office.

An autopsy then determined that Mr. Dignall had been shot, and the Erie County coroner's office ruled the manner of death as a homicide, state police said this afternoon.
