Pennsylvania State Police in Butler said today they are searching for a rifle missing from an Forward business where a man was found fatally shot Friday.

State police said the missing rifle resembles a Canadian Centennial Winchester 30/30 rifle produced in 1967.

The rifle was last seen inside Bob's Trucks and Auto Repair at 1657 Evans City Road. Investigators don't know if the gun was used to kill 45-year-old Robert Charles Gaurrich of Evans City -- only that he owned it and kept it at his business prior to his death.

Troopers said an acquaintance found Mr. Gaurrich's body about 11 p.m. Friday. The Butler County coroner's office ruled the death a homicide and said Mr. Gaurrich, who lived on Browndale Road in Evans City, died of a single gunshot wound to the chest.

State police asked anyone with information about the missing gun to call the criminal investigation unit in Butler at 724-284-8100.
