Avonworth
The high school and middle school will host the 25th annual Children's Hospital auction beginning at 8 a.m. today and Friday in the high school/middle school auditorium as well as online, raising funds for the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation's Free Care Fund.
Student volunteers from the middle school and high school student council take the lead in planning the annual auction under the supervision of teacher advisors which, last year raised more than $20,000. In 24 years, the district has raised almost $240,000.
Auction items range from sports paraphernalia to vacation getaways, gift certificates, local fare and appliances all donated by the community. Bidding will take place on site as well as via the online auction portal www.webidz.com for the high school today and the middle school on Friday. Online bidding will continue until noon on Wednesday.
Fox Chapel
The choral music department will present its annual "Sounds of the Season" choral concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the high school auditorium, 611 Field Club Road, O'Hara.
Featured will be the high school choral ensembles (the Concert Choir, Madrigal Singers, Vulpes Cantantes, the Men's Choir, and Women's Choir), the Dorseyville Middle School combined honor choirs, the Carnegie Brass Quintet and percussionists P.J. Gatch and David Robbins.
The choral Parents and Friends Association will honor all the performers at a reception following the concert in the commons area of the high school.
The ticket donations for the concert is $7.
Tickets can be purchased at www.fcasd.edu/tickets and at the activities entrance (near the fox statue) at the high school from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Monday. Tickets will only be sold at the door pending availability.
Gold Card holders will be admitted free, but they must call 412-967-2472.
Hampton
David Gurwin was re-elected to his third term as president and Bryant Wesley was elected vice president Dec. 3. Meeting dates will continue to be at 7 p.m. the first Monday for a working meeting and at 7:30 p.m. the second Monday. The meetings are in the middle school library on School Drive.
Mars Area
The high school holiday chorus concert will be at 7 p.m. today in the auditorium.
The Centennial School band, chorus and orchestra concert will begin at 6 p.m. for grade 5 and at 7:30 p.m. for grade 6 on Wednesday.
• Dayle Ferguson was re-appointed as Board President, Rebecca S. Brown as Board Vice President. Other Board members are Rita Dorsch, Jane Dunn, John L. Kennedy, Gordon Marburger, H. Ross McConnell, Christine Valenta and Bonnie L. Weaver.
In 2013, work sessions and regular Board meetings will continue to be held at 7 p.m. on the first and second Tuesday.
• The high school Student Council is sponsoring a food drive through next Thursday to benefit The Lighthouse Foundation food bank. The school is accepting donations of canned goods and other non-perishable items.

North Allegheny
Maureen Grosheider was re-elected president Dec. 5 and Dan Hubert was re-elected vice president.
North Hills
Students and staff raised more than $2,000 to help those affected by the destruction from Hurricane Sandy along the East Coast. Paraprofessional Linda Thompson spearheaded a campaign across the district and raised $1,000 for Engine Company 154 in Staten Island, N.Y.
Highcliff Elementary School students and teacher Suheir Pfeil led an additional campaign gathering $500 and 300 hats, gloves and other items for general Hurricane Sandy relief to help those who lost everything stay warm this winter. The Hands for Service Club in the high school collected $618.
Quaker Valley
The middle school will present The Little Mermaid, Jr. at 3:30 and 7 p.m. Saturdayin the high school auditorium. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for students and seniors, and can be ordered by email to Lisa Cantalamessa at girlofmark@gmail.com. Also, tickets will be available at the door.
• The high school recently was awarded accreditation from the Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools of the Middles States Association of Colleges and Schools. The accreditation is through Dec. 1, 2019.
• The girls' lacrosse team recently raised more than $650 in donations for the Tess Senay Raynovich Art and Earth Fund. More than 30 current and alumni members of the lacrosse team, Coach Nellie Kraus, referees and friends participated in the inaugural Quaker Valley Girls' LAX Thanksgiving Turkey Trot in memory of the 2010 Quaker Valley graduate who died in October.
The Fund honors her vision as an artist to express her concern and love of the environment through her work. Although the details are not yet finalized, friends and family will determine the student artist, school or organization that will benefit the most from the donation -- honoring Tess while bringing some small comfort to her family and friends.

Seneca Valley
Members of the Raider Battalion in the Seneca Valley Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps placed second at a League Air Rifle championship match. The Shoulder-by-Shoulder event, held at Perry High School, included JROTC battalions from Beaver, Valley, Perry and Seneca Valley high schools.
The cadets representing Seneca Valley were Roy Rowland, Joseph Racke, Justin Graham, Justin Ziegler and team captain Aaron Berard. Justin Zeigler was the top shooter for the Raider Battalion team.
Shaler Area
James Giel was re-elected president and Domenic Donovan was re-elected vice president at the Dec. 5 reorganization meeting. Both votes were unanimous.
The board will continue to meet at 7:30 p.m. on the second and third Wednesdays in the Barbara J. Duss conference room on the lower level of the middle school on Mt. Royal Boulevard.
St. Joseph
The Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools of the Middles States Association of Colleges and Schools has awarded reaccreditation to St. Joseph High School in Harrison.
Accreditation means that St. Joseph has met the Middle States standards for a quality school.
Saint Joseph High School has been reaccredited through 2019.
