Around the World is the theme for the homecoming parade at 6 p.m. Friday starting at the middle school and following East Union Road to the high school. East Union will be closed between Saxonburg Boulevard and Starr Road between 5:45 and 7:15.
The homecoming queen and princess will be crowned during halftime of the game versus Charleroi, which starts at 7:30 p.m. at Lancer Stadium. Stadium admission is $5 for adults and $2 for students.
A community blood drive will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the large-group instruction room of the high school, 611 Field Club Road, O'Hara.
The event is being coordinated by the community outreach committee of the Fox Chapel Area High School Student Government and the Central Blood Bank, which is offering scholarships. Madison McNally who graduated this year won a $500 scholarship.
To qualify for a scholarship, the high school hosted a summer blood drive and is sponsoring three additional drives Feb. 6 and May 21. Scholarships are awarded for the highest percent participation and largest number of registered donations for the year.
Anyone who donates blood at a local donor center can request it be credited to Fox Chapel (code HS010025).

• The music department will present a full performance of Carl Orff's 1936 cantata, "Carmina Burana" featuring 130 singers from all schools accompanied by a symphony orchestra Nov. 4 in Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall, 4141 Fifth Ave., Oakland.
All seats are reserved, and tickets, which cost between $12 and $25, can be purchased from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 6, 13, 20, and 27 and Nov. 3 in the high school auditorium box office, 611 Field Club Road, O'Hara. Tickets also can be purchased at web.fcasd.edu/tickets.
n The high school's literary magazine, Tapestry, has been named a winner in the magazine portion of the American Scholastic Press Association's annual national contest.
The staff editors were 2012 graduates Lee Eisner, Claire Kintner, Sana Malik, and Margaret Saunders; seniors Cara Costanzo, Alyssa Gurklis, Jaden Hanley, Yingge Li, Samuel Schanwald, Edward Schwartz, and Jennifer Stewart; and juniors Emily Katz and McKenna Trimble.
The award letter from the American Scholastic Press Association said, "Your magazine shows the superior efforts of talented and creative editors, writers, artists, photographers, layout/graphics designers, staff members and adviser."
Middle school, high school and college students from across the U.S. submitted entries from magazines, newspapers and yearbooks that were judged on page design, story layout, graphics, headlining, cover design and photography.
Donations of new and gently used coats, hats, gloves/mittens, scarves and blankets will be accepted during the primary center's Bundle Up Butler winter clothing drive Monday through Oct. 5.
The items will be distributed to needy Butler County residents through the Center for Community Resources in Butler.

• This year's calendar includes prescheduled two-hour delays on these dates: Friday, Nov. 1, Feb. 4, March 20 and April 18.
During the delays, Mars Area administrators, teachers and staff members will be reviewing and analyzing student achievement data to ensure consistency between schools and continuity from year to year.
• The high school will host a presentation on the state's Keystone Exams/Graduation Requirements from 5:30 to 6 p.m. today in the LGI Room.
Parents are invited to the presentation, which will precede open house/curriculum night, which will be from 6 to 8. The program will offer an overview of the Keystone Exam testing requirements for students in ninth through 11th grades as well as new graduation requirements approved to accommodate the state-mandated exams.
Parents and residents of Ross and West View are invited to the inaugural Second Cup of Coffee with superintendent Patrick Mannarino from 9:30 to 10:30 Wednesday in West View Elementary cafeteria, 47 Chalfonte Ave., West View. Refreshments will be served while attendees speak informally with the superintendent.

• Veterans from throughout the North Hills are invited to the annual North Hills Junior High Veterans Day ceremony at 9 a.m. Nov. 16 in the North Hills Junior High School auditorium, 55 Rochester Road, Ross.
The program will feature introductions of veterans and performances by the junior high band and chorus. A reception will follow the program.
