Hampton

The Hampton Alliance for Educational Excellence has awarded $8,733 to help fund programs in four Hampton schools.

Music and instrumental teacher Chad Himmler received $5,000 for the enrichment program in chamber music to be conducted at Hampton High School during the 2005-06 school year.

Hampton Middle School will receive nearly $3,000 to buy an interactive learning system to be used for science, requested by science teacher David Kuniak.

Poff Elementary School will introduce Puppetry Days in the coming school year funded by a grant of $600.

Teacher Kim Leonard and Central Elementary School will receive $138 to partially fund an expanded version of Animania.

Quaker Valley

The American Scholastic Press Association has awarded the Quaker Valley High School newspaper, The Quaker Quill, another first place in its annual competition.

Since 1992, The Quaker Quill has received 13 first-place awards, one second- place award and one first place with special merit.

In the category for high schools of 500 to 1,000 students, Quaker Valley was the only high school in southwestern Pennsylvania to receive the top award.

Faculty adviser Rita Hoepp said the papers are evaluated on content coverage, page design, general plan, art/advertising/illustrations, editing and creativity.
