Council unanimously approved the use of Bayne Park for a summer food service program, which will provide weekday deliveries of lunches for children.
Council member Jane Braunlich said Tuesday night that about 230 children, or more than half of Bellevue Elementary students, qualify for the free or reduced lunch program.
She said many of those children would miss meals during the summer months because they're not in school.
Sponsored by the Allegheny County Department of Human Services and run by volunteers, the program is scheduled to begin Monday.
Meals will be distributed from 11 a.m. to noon weekdays until Aug. 17.
In other action, resident Danina DiBattista, 28, owner of Bite Bistro, asked that council review the restriction against allowing her patrons to drink their own alcohol while seated outside in front of her business.
"This is a time-sensitive issue," she said, noting that Pittsburgh only has four more months of warm weather.
Mr. Helbling made a motion to advertise an ordinance to allow BYOB patrons of restaurants with outside seating to have drinks in what is currently a restricted area.
Council member Kathy Coder said that the borough has no open container law and questioned why it is illegal to drink alcohol outside of a restaurant.
Solicitor Tom McDermott said that the law against serving alcohol also affected restaurants with outdoor seating, stipulating that patrons can sit outside, but they cannot drink alcohol.
