Penn Power said it has restored electrical service to all customers who were affected by an outage Tuesday night.

More than 42,000 customers in northern Allegheny and southern Butler counties were without power because of the 7:35 p.m. outage at the Maple substation in Cranberry, said Rob Lombardo, area manager for Penn Power.

Service was restored to the final customers around 7:55 a.m. today.

Two transmission lines that serve the substation were down, but it is still unclear what happened.

"It really does take something pretty drastic to take those down," Mr. Lombardo said. "I can't blame the weather on those."

The North Allegheny School District announced on its website that it is operating on a two-hour delay with modified kindergarten Wednesday because of the outage.

Community College of Allegheny County-North Campus in McCandless is closed for daytime classes. Only employees defined as essential personnel should report for the daytime shift; all offices will be closed. Evening classes are expected to resume as scheduled.

The power outage affected production of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and the Valley News Dispatch.
