North Allegheny exploring options to balance budget

Administrators in the North Allegheny School District will begin looking next week at ways to close the projected $5.8 million gap in the 2013-14 budget.
Superintendent Raymond Gualtieri told board members today a higher pupil-teacher ratio in elementary music and ways to deliver the student assistance program at less cost are among the items being considered.
He added that they are looking at the budget two ways: with and without Peebles Elementary School. The school board will hold a public hearing Jan. 30 on an administration proposal to close that school, which will save $1.2 million a year.
