The Mars Area School Board Tuesday approved a $39,819,651 budget that holds the line on taxes but cuts personnel.

The budget includes not replacing retiring teachers and furloughing two guidance counselors and two technology teachers.

Taxes will remain at 99 mills. Each mill generates $215,000.

"We approached this budget with our eyes wide open," said board President J. Dayle Ferguson. "These challenging times, by all accounts, will continue into the future."
