State police said a young man died after he was shot inside a home in Connoquenessing Borough Friday afternoon.

Police were called to a home in the 100 block of Sunset Drive about 4:40 p.m. for a report that a man had been shot. When troopers arrived, the man, whose name and age have not been released, was dead in the living room, Lt. Steve Ignatz said.

Workers from the district attorney's office and the Butler County coroner's office, as well as state police investigators, remained on the scene about 8:30 p.m. while they tried to piece together how the shooting happened.

Lt. Ignatz said investigators were treating the death "like a homicide" but have not yet ruled out the possibility that it could have been accidental.

Two other people -- a man and a woman -- were inside the home at the time, police said.

The lieutenant said troopers were still trying to reach some of the victim's relatives and thus declined to release his age or to say whether he lived in the home where he was shot. He also declined to say where the man was shot before the coroner had a chance to examine the body.
