Man dies in Butler County motorcycle crash

A Slippery Rock man died Sunday night when he lost control of his motorcycle in Butler County.

State police in Butler said Thomas L. Shaffer, 49, drove his Suzuki motorcycle off the road due to excessive speed on a curve as he exited state Road 422 eastbound for Route 19 in Muddy Creek.

Police said Mr. Shaffer struck an embankment around 6:20 p.m. and was thrown from the motorcycle. He died at the scene.
