The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will restrict traffic in two areas of Interstate 79 on Saturday, but there's a silver lining for those who have endured a season of backups in the construction zone in Marshall.

Traffic will be limited to one lane in both directions in the area of the Warrendale-Bayne Road interchange (Exit 75) from 6 a.m. to about 5 p.m. Saturday while crews remove the barrier and paint lines. When that's done, the road will reopen to three lanes of traffic in both directions on the rehabilitated bridges at the interchange, removing restrictions that began in March. While the restrictions are in place Saturday, PennDOT is warning of significant delays and stopped traffic.

The work had been slated for completion in late November, but PennDOT added some work on bridge bearings to the $10 million project. With its conclusion, the weight restriction on the ramp from northbound I-79 to Cranberry (Exit 76), which passes over southbound I-79, will be removed.

Farther south on I-79, single-lane closures will occur from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday between Bridgeville (Exit 54) and the Washington County line as crews install reflective pavement markers. Previous weekend work in the area has caused major tie-ups on the highway and adjacent roads, including Route 50 and Route 19.

Spokesman Jim Struzzi said some minor work remains to be done in the area this season.
