Hampton school board to vote on real estate tax assessment appeals

The Hampton Township school board added school district-initiated appeals of 2013 real estate tax assessments to the voting agenda for its next meeting on March 11.
At its work session tonight, the board listened to Jeff Kline, director of administrative services, explain the need for the district to initiate its own assessment appeals.
About 58 properties, mostly new construction, would be targeted by the district for appeal, Mr. Kline said.
The appeals would be based on property transactions in 2012 where the difference between the purchase price and the 2013 assessment reflects a lost revenue to the district of $1,000 or more at the current 2013 adjusted millage rate.
Also on next week's voting agenda will be the possible approval of Scherer Electric's bid to install electrical power to the new scoreboard at the high school baseball field. The cost, $3,400, is more than $600 less than a second bid for the job, according to Rick Farino, buildings and grounds supervisor.
Additionally, the board is set to vote on the district's new elementary math curriculum for the 2013-14 school year. Math in Focus will cost the district about $150,000 to institute. Gail Litwiler, chair of the board's educational programs committee, said materials distribution and teacher training will begin in late April, continue through the summer and continue into the beginning of the next school year.
