A Fox Chapel couple pleaded guilty last week to wire fraud conspiracy in connection with a mortgage fraud scheme perpetrated through their mortgage company, All Credit Finance.
Randy Berger, 39, and his wife, Elleni Berger, 43, admitted they were part of a conspiracy from 2000 to 2005 in which they submitted fraudulent loan applications and other documents which overstated borrowers' finances.
They also admitted that they submitted fraudulent appraisals and lied that the appraisals were prepared by licensed appraisers when they weren't.
In addition, Ms. Berger admitted that she filed false tax returns.
In their plea agreement, the couple agreed that the amount of loss from their conduct was between $1 million and $2.5 million, figures that U.S. District Judge Joy Flowers Conti will take into consideration when she imposes a sentence on June 16.
