Gov. Tom Corbett today ordered flags to half-staff Monday at the Capitol and at commonwealth offices in Butler County in remembrance of an Evans City soldier killed in action in Afghanistan.
Army Staff Sgt. Eric S. Holman, 39, a 1990 Avonworth graduate, was killed Aug. 15 in Afghanistan's Ghazni province by an improvised explosive device, according to the Department of Defense. He was serving with the 767th Explosive Ordnance Disposition Battalion, based at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.
Monday is the scheduled day of his funeral in Butler County.
The governor's order covers U.S. and Pennsylvania flags at every building in the Capitol complex in Harrisburg as well as those occupied by the state in Butler County.
