A $14 million construction project will bring two seasons of lane closures to Interstate 79 in Butler County.

Work was scheduled to begin Monday on crossovers near the Route 422 interchange in Muddycreek, at mile 99. Short-term lane closures are possible from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays through early March.

After that, northbound traffic will be crossed over to the southbound side, with one lane open in both directions, to allow replacement of a northbound bridge. That restriction will remain in place throughout the construction season.

The southbound bridge will be replaced next season, with the overall project scheduled for completion in fall 2014.
