Police: Butler man kills another, calls 911 to report it

Butler City police said a man fatally shot another man early today and then called them to confess.

Richard Neyman, 35, of Butler, was arraigned this afternoon on a charge of criminal homicide in the death of 45-year-old Craig Haas, also of Butler.

Police said Mr. Neyman shot Mr. Haas at his apartment at 430 West New Castle St. about 1:15 a.m. He called police immediately afterwards to report he had just shot Mr. Haas, police said.

Officers arrived at the apartment to find Mr. Haas dead. They arrested Mr. Neyman about a half-mile from the apartment complex, at 120 East Jefferson St.

Mr. Neyman remained in the Butler County Prison without bail this afternoon. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday at 1:45 p.m.
