Butler County woman stole more than $73,700 from Bellevue employer, police say

A Butler County woman, who police say stole more than $73,700 from her Bellevue employer, surrendered to the district attorney's office yesterday.
Patricia Alice Lumley, 58, of Harmony was arraigned on four felony counts of theft by unlawful taking, and a felony count each of receiving stolen property and access device fraud, according to court documents.
She was released on a non-monetary bond with a preliminary hearing set for March 28, spokesman Mike Manko said in an email.
Ms. Lumley was hired by DeFinis Mechanical Contracting, LLC as an account manager in July 2010, police said. Company owner Craig DeFinis told police that he relied on Ms. Lumley to complete accounting correctly.
Accounting irregularities were discovered internally, police said.
About $47,037.91 in debit transactions and online payments that were not business-related were made by Ms. Lumley, police said, which includes more than $45,000 paid to American Express in large increments.
Ms. Lumley overpaid herself about $12,442.47 during her employment, police said. Four non-payroll checks totaling about $6,364.25 made payable to Ms. Lumley were not approved by Mr. DeFinis, police said. Ms. Lumley withdrew about $7,870 cash from ATMs, police said.
