Butler County man accused of crafting explosives

A Butler County man remained in jail this morning on charges that he filled CO2 canisters with gunpowder and lit them on fire.

Pennsylvania State Police in Butler arrested Jonathan C. Bennett, 40, about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a report that he was setting off some sort of explosive.

When troopers arrived at his home on on Ridge Road in Center, they saw him fill a C02 canister with gunpowder, state police wrote in a news release. Troopers said they also found other fireworks and a fuse at the home.

Mr. Bennett was arraigned on charges of possessing weapons of mass destruction, recklessly endangering another person, having a prohibited offensive weapon and disorderly conduct. He remained in the Butler County Prison this morning on $30,000 bail, prison workers said.
