Builders air plans in Ross

The Ross planning commission will have a full agenda next Thursday.
Requests before the board will include rezoning the former Northway Elementary School property, 300 homes at the former Highland Country Club and 40-plus townhouses on Cemetery Lane.
Levey and Co. purchased both the Shoppes at Northway and the adjacent elementary school. The school is zoned residential, and the company is requesting that the property be rezoned to commercial so that it can be included in its plans for the former Northway Mall.
Heartland Homes wants to build a planned residential development in four phases at the former Highland Country Club, which closed in October 2011.
Dan Hankins, zoning officer, said Heartland's development includes 170 townhouses and 130 single-family homes and is expected to be completed in six years.
Because it is a planned residential development, each phase must go through the board of commissioners for approval, Mr. Hankins said. The first public hearing before commissioners is scheduled for Jan. 7.
The request was tabled from the commission's November meeting because of concerns from neighbors about potential traffic. Planning commission members will visit the site and review the proposed entrances Saturday.
More than 40 townhouses are planned on Cemetery Lane on land owned by Ray Caldwell. Mr. Hankins said that Ryan Homes will be the developer.
The planning commission meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the township building.
