STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The Riverside High School baseball team was the only squad from the WPIAL to make a PIAA championship game this year and the Panthers are coming home as state champions.

Riverside came back from an early two-run deficit to defeat Pine Grove, 5-4, in the Class AA championship game at Penn State today. It is the second consecutive title for Riverside and the fourth overall, all since 2005.

Pine Grove took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first and Riverside trailed, 3-1, after three innings. But Riverside broke loose for four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good.

Tyler Falk had the big hit in the fourth inning, a two-run triple to center field.

Blaise McCarty was the starting pitcher for Riverside, but was relieved by Rob Hardy in the second inning. Hardy pitched the rest of the way.
