7-Eleven behind home a concern in Ross

It is not convenient to live behind a convenience store, Joseph Studeny told Ross commissioners last week.
Mr. Studeny, who lives on Thompson Run Road in the township, complained that patrons of the 7-Eleven at 333 Thompson Run use his yard as a garbage dump and as a bathroom.
"All the patrons come on my property," he said.
"They relieve themselves behind my trees, on the grass. They walk their dogs. It's a mess, so I am coming to you guys for help."
He said the debris attracts rodents and he is worried about his three young children coming into contact with the rodents.
"I always thought that the rule was that they needed some kind of privacy fence to separate the two if there is a convenience store," he said.
Solicitor Bonnie Brimmeier said she will talk with zoning officer Dan Hankins and see if any ordinances will allow them to help. Commissioner Gerald O'Brien also suggested that the Allegheny County Health Department be contacted about the rodent problem.
In other action, commissioners awarded a $208,000 contract to Joseph Vaccarello Jr. Inc. of Carnegie to repair a landslide on Virginia Road.
Commissioners also appointed Craig Linner to a vacancy on the zoning hearing board and Tara Howey as an alternate to the board.
Both had applied for the open seat and were interviewed during the committee meeting that preceded the voting meeting.
Interim manager Debby Grass of Delta Development Group Inc. told commissioners they have 12 candidates for the manager position.
The application deadline is Wednesday. In addition to serving as interim manager, she is helping the township find a new manager.
During commissioners' comments, Dan DeMarco responded to an inquiry about the status of the Shoppes at Northway on McKnight Road.
"We don't really know what is going to happen with that property until the real estate transaction is made," he said. The former Northway Mall was placed on the market earlier this year after the ownership fell into foreclosure.
