An East Hills woman was arrested today on charges that she tried to stab another woman 12 times after she was served with an eviction notice.
Dortha Johnson, 58, was awaiting arraignment tonight on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and other offenses.
Police wrote in a criminal complaint that surveillance footage and witness interviews indicate that Ms. Johnson followed Charlice Christian as she walked to an elevator inside an apartment building, raised a knife and attempted to stab the woman 12 times. She hit Ms. Christian five times, leaving her with stab wounds to her left and right arms.
Ms. Johnson told police she waited in the lobby for nearly three and a half hours before stabbing Ms. Christian because "she could not sleep due to her wanting to kill someone," according to the complaint.
Police recommended that she receive a mental evaluation.
