An Allegheny County jury today convicted a Wilkinsburg man of attempted murder for shooting a Homewood man, who was days from testifying against another man who shot him the year before.

According to the Allegheny County district attorney's office, DuWayne Dixon, 22, targeted Andre Ripley, 25, 10 days before Mr. Ripley was to take the stand against Joshua Evans, also of Wilkinsburg, who shot Mr. Ripley and a baby during a May 2007 botched robbery in Ferguson Park.

Mr. Dixon shot Mr. Ripley, who was eventually able to testify against Mr. Evans, twice in the head in February 2008.

Mr. Evans pleaded to shooting Mr. Ripley and in the plot to kill him and was sentenced to between 26 and 52 years in jail

A sentencing date for Mr. Dixon has not been set.
