Allegheny County sheriff's deputies arrested a Wall man early Wednesday for failing to appear in court on charges he hit a woman with his car, resulting in the amputation of her leg.
Deputies said Freddie Knight, 39, failed to appear in court on charges including aggravated assault by vehicle, resisting arrest and fleeing and eluding officers after hitting the woman in East Deer in February.
A bench warrant was issued Tuesday and sheriff's deputies began searching for him. Deputies and East McKeesport police searched his home, then kept it under surveillance until about 12:15 A.M. Wednesday, when they arrested Mr. Knight exiting a vehicle in the 300 block of Grant Street in Wall, according to the sheriff's department.
Police said the original incident occurred Feb. 3, when the car Mr. Knight was driving slid onto the sidewalk and pinned Tammy Roberts against a set of steps. Mr. Knight then backed up and drove away, police said.
Mr. Knight is being held without bail in the Allegheny County Jail pending a hearing.
