East Allegheny warns parents of possible child luring

Editor's note, posted Feb. 13, 2013: An earlier version of this story had incorrect information, attributed to East Allegheny Superintendent Roger D'Emidio, about a possible second luring attempt. There was only one attempt, according to North Versailles police.
North Versailles police Chief Vincent DiCenzo said his officers have been looking for a man who tried to lure a teenaged girl into his car last Wednesday morning in Wilmerding.
He approached the girl while she was waiting for her school bus at 7:15 a.m., said "You're too pretty to be standing out there" and offered her a ride, Chief DiCenzo said.
She went home and told her guardian. The same man drove past her again five minutes later, the chief said.
Chief DiCenzo described the man as a white man about 60 years old with gray hair driving a white Honda four-door sedan.
East Allegheny Superintendent Roger D'Emidio posted a warning letter to parents on the district's website Thursday.
After Monday night's school board meeting, Mr. D'Emidio said a man tried to lure a high school student who attends Forbes Road Career and Technology Center into his vehicleIn his letter, Mr. D'Emidio urged parents to tell their children not to talk to strangers, whether the strangers say they know the child's parents or not.
"Our first priority is the safety of our students and I thank you for your continued support and cooperation in this matter," Mr. D'Emidio wrote in the letter.
Mr. DiCenzo said he was aware of only one incident, and that one attempted luring was reported to police.
