Board changes middle school discipline policy
East Allegheny school board last week changed its middle school discipline policy to create different consequences for misbehavior depending on the grade level of the student.
School board member Roxanne Eichler said more will be expected of seventh and eighth graders under the new policy.
For instance, the first time a student in grades four through six engages in horseplay or disruptive behavior in school, the consequence will be a visit to the principal's office, and the second time, the consequence will be one day of after-school suspension, Mrs. Eichler said.
For seventh and eighth graders, the consequence for a first instance of horseplay or disruptive behavior will be one day of after-school suspension, and the punishment for a second instance of disruptive behavior will be two days of in-school suspension, she said.
East Allegheny school directors also made a minor change in the dress code for teachers. Mrs. Eichler said teachers were formerly allowed to wear casual clothing on both in-service days and "faculty dress down" days. From now on, they will be allowed to wear casual clothes only on in-service days, she said.
