Pitcairn police have recovered the SUV used in an attempt to run over one of the department's officers Sunday afternoon.

Allegheny County homicide unit Lt. Andrew Schurman said he hopes to have more information on a suspect by Tuesday.

Lt. Schurman said the officer was in the 500 block of Second Street in Pitcairn searching for a man suspected of firing a BB gun earlier in the day at a group of people.

About 4:45 p.m. the suspect ran out of a house and into an SUV that had just pulled up.

The driver of the SUV tried to run over the officer, who fired his gun once. The SUV and its driver left.

Police don't believe anyone was shot.

Pitcairn police found the vehicle Sunday night with a bullet hole in the passenger door.
