A suspended Central Catholic High School guidance counselor has been accused of selling heroin from her Forest Hills home.
Kelly M. Scherer, 36, of Sumner Avenue, was arraigned on a criminal conspiracy charge and several narcotics violations.
There is no indication that authorities in either Forest Hills or Pittsburgh believe any drug activity involving Ms. Scherer occurred on the high school's Oakland campus.
At the time of her arrest, Ms. Scherer was already on suspension for unrelated issues.
"The suspension was due to unsatisfactory job performance," Central Catholic president Brother Patrick Duffy said in a statement. "On Thursday, Nov. 29, we learned that Ms. Scherer was being investigated by the police for issues unrelated to her employment at Central Catholic High School."
Brother Patrick would not say when Ms. Scherer was hired or when she was suspended.
Ms. Scherer is in the Allegheny County Jail on $25,000 straight bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday before Forest Hills District Judge Thomas P. Caulfield.
Court records show that Ms. Scherer faces a Jan. 22 non-jury trial before Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge David R. Cashman on a felony count of false/fraudulent medical assistance claim.
