Somerset County pedestrian struck and killed

A Somerset County man collecting cans as he walked on the side of a highway was killed when he was struck by a car yesterday afternoon.

State police said Benjamin Mayhugh, 72, of Meyersdale, was on the berm of Route 219 in Elk Lick when he was struck by a car driven by Coralie Williams, 60, of Johnstown, at 12:15 p.m.

He died at the scene. Ms. Williams was not injured.
