A skeleton discovered over a hillside in Monroeville last week has been identified as that of a man reported missing nearly 10 years ago.

Anthony Pataky was 53 when he disappeared after visiting his sister in Turtle Creek in July 2002. He had been living in a personal care home in Butler.

The Allegheny County medical examiner, Dr. Karl E. Williams, identified the remains over the weekend. His office will have an anthropologist try to determine a cause of death.

Mr. Pataky was a Vietnam veteran who had a known history of being treated for psychiatric problems, the medical examiner's office said.

The body, found in a wooded area near the Tri-Boro Expressway, was identified through dental records and "unique skeletal features," including an untreated leg fracture, Dr. Williams said.
