A former Wilkinsburg High School security guard was ordered to stand trial Thursday on charges that he exchanged sexually explicit messages with a 14-year-old student.

The girl told police earlier this month that she had had a relationship with Michael Tolbert, 26, of Garfield, for several months and exchanged more than 1,000 messages with him, some of which included explicit pictures, according to a report prepared by Wilkinsburg police.

She also told them she and Mr. Tolbert sometimes kissed in the school building during school hours.

Police wrote in the report that the girl's mother contacted them on Nov. 21 after she noticed that her daughter had been coming home late and she found a number she did not recognize in her daughter's phone.

Police arrested Mr. Tolbert later that day and wrote in their report that he admitted to kissing the girl and exchanging the messages with her.

Mr. Tolbert is scheduled to appear in court for formal arraignment on Jan. 17. He faces charges of institutional sex assault, indecent assault, corruption a minor and other offenses.

District superintendent Archie Perrin Jr. said Mr. Tolbert was employed by a company that has a contract to do security work for the school. He said Mr. Tolbert has not been allowed on school property since his arrest.
