An Indiana County man has been charged with attempted homicide after state police said he tried to run down a trooper while fleeing from a domestic disturbance.

State police Trooper Brennan Herr said he was investigating a domestic disturbance involving James Derrick Hicks at 6 a.m. Friday when he located Mr. Hicks at a Sheetz convenience store in Homer City. Trooper Herr said Mr. Hicks tried to strike him with his vehicle as he fled.

Trooper Herr said he tried to pursue Mr. Hicks but could not find him.

Later, police were pursuing a motorcyclist on State Route 119 when it was determined that the operator was Mr. Hicks. He was overtaken in an incident in which he injured his hand and leg and taken to Latrobe Hospital for treatment.
