A Plum man was sentenced Thursday to six to 15 years in prison for the shooting death of his live-in girlfriend.

Jordan Just, 29, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter last month before Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Edward J. Borkowski.

According to police, Mr. Just and Nancy Schaab, 26, were having an argument the night of Oct. 23, when she broke his nose and then went after him with a knife.

Mr. Just grabbed a handgun from their dining room table and fired one shot into Ms. Schaab's chest. When police got to the scene, the woman was propped up against a sofa with a large knife in her hand.

At the sentencing, Ms. Schaab's family described her as an athletic woman who loved dogs and had a passion for life, though she struggled with drugs.
