Penn Hills police are investigating an early morning crash along Allegheny River Boulevard.

Police Chief Howard Burton said a man hit an embankment and utility pole with his SUV before it rolled, throwing him from the vehicle near Nadine Road.

The SUV landed on his legs, pinning him underneath, Chief Burton said. Police were dispatched just before 1:30 a.m. for a report of the vehicle smoking and lying on its side. Emergency rescuers responded to the scene to help retrieve the driver.

The man, whose name the department is not releasing, was the only person in the vehicle. His was rushed to UPMC Presbyterian. Police in Penn Hills did not know his condition Tuesday morning.
