A Pittsburgh woman suffered severe head injuries in a wrong-way crash this morning on the Parkway East in Wilkinsburg that closed westbound lanes for more than an hour.

Carrie Marie Mammay, 26, was driving east in the westbound lanes in a 1990 Chevrolet Metro at 4:23 a.m., Pennsylvania State Police said, when her car crashed into a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee headed west.

Ms. Mammay's head injuries prompted emergency medical personnel to take her to UPMC Mercy. Her condition was unclear.

The Cherokee's driver, Paul Tavella, 47, of Greensburg, suffered minor injuries, as did his wife, Jeanne, 45, state police said. Both were taken to UPMC Presbyterian.

The westbound lanes were closed between 4:23 a.m. and 5:50 a.m.

State police said charges resulting from the crash are pending blood-toxicology test results.
