Woman perishes in Armstrong County fire

An elderly woman died this morning in a house fire in Armstrong County.

Mary Ellen Fink, 78, was also the mother of Armstrong County Commissioner Richard Fink, according to KDKA-TV.

Fire Chief Steve Baker said the blaze broke out around 7:30 a.m. today at a home on Franklin Street in the borough of Applewold.

Ms. Fink lived alone and had recently returned home from the hospital, according to KDKA-TV. She died from smoke inhalation, according to the county coroner.

A fire marshal has been asked to investigate.
