Monroeville police today are investigating a Sunday night armed robbery at a gas station on Route 48.

Monroeville police Chief Doug Cole said a man entered Steve's Sunoco at 2700 Mosside Blvd., also known as Route 48, shortly after 8:45 p.m. and pointed at handgun at the store attendant, demanding money.

The man made off on foot with an unidentified amount of cash and left the gas station, situated in a busy, well-lit area along a main artery.

Police described him as 5-foot-10 with a thin build. He was wearing a gray hoodie, a black scarf tied around his mouth and sagging jeans that exposed red boxers.

Chief Cole said the robbery was Monroeville's first of 2013 and likely the first in a few months.

Monroeville police usually expect a "handful" around Christmas but saw none this past season.

"We get very few robberies," Chief Cole said.

Police asked anyone with information to call 412-856-1111.
