McKeesport High School will reach into the past for its new football coach.
George Smith, who coached McKeesport for 28 years before resigning after the 2009 season, is expected to be hired next week. He will take over for Jim Ward, who resigned after three seasons.
Smith was a finalist for the job along with Clairton defensive coordinator Wayne Wade and Baldwin coach Jim Wehner. Wade said he was informed by McKeesport tonight that Smith had been chosen as coach and the school board will hire him next week.
In his 28 years as coach, Smith won 197 games, two WPIAL titles and one PIAA title.
